'The Player´s Lodge'

Origins and Organization

"Our civilization is a kind of gameset, created by a network of political, religious and social players... this structure is called SHENG."
These are the first words of SHENG´s most unsuccessful
Hitman John F. Sebastian´s so called 'Anger Diaries', recorded with a dictating machine. Even the highest ranked players of SHENG know nothing about the initial point of the game, although it seems to be a fact, that, according to certain artefacts in the possession of High Masters, SHENG exists since the days of Hyperborea.
After indescretions during Decay of Yugoslavia-turmoils in the 1990s Sebastian's secret recordings were incidentally handed over to MacGuffin, an Austrian culture club and further on to Graphic Novelist Joerg Vogeltanz, who publishes them as comic-series called 'Retrospective Glance / The Memories Of John F. Sebastian: The Anger Diaries. SHENG was able to get the promise only to come out with the series in a coded and symbolic form out of the authors and artworkers.

SHENG´s Structure is separated in 'Spheres', 'Degrees' and 'Classes', representing the degree of structural involvement on one hand, on the other hand showing the player´s winnings and losings. SHENG´s most essential characteristic is it´s purpose- and aimlessness. Because of its pseudo-taoistic principles the game doesn´t include the concept of winning... a feature only open to higher Master-Degrees. The permanent and ambitious collecting of points solely leads to being promoted into Supreme Master Levels... ending with the gradual amputation of body parts. This cruel ritual, probably basing upon archaic roots of SHENG, is obviously symbolizing that gaining power requires losing physical existence.Unfortunately this tradition has encouraged Low-Level-Players to mutilate themselves to circumvent necessary Moves from time to time during the last 500 years. Such 'Cheat'-attempts are usually ending with the termination of the cheating Player.

shengOrigin of the Name

The chinese word 'sheng' (also: 'dshen') is the name of an I CHING- Trigram meaning
"The Excitabling", "The Thunder", "The Shaking". It could also be the name of an asian musical instrument. Any interpretations are purely speculative for the intentions of SHENG´s Founders stay hidden in the far away past.

Symbol

There are several different versions circulating; the actual symbol is a variation of the I Ching Trigram as mentioned above. The undermentioned image shows the still unchanged 1947-version:
